Forged Extruded Threaded
Thread rolling is a plastic forming operation. This method is much faster than tapping and threading. Rolled threads are stronger and more fatigue resistant than cut threads. They are also less liable to be affected by abrasion and binding in service.
Extrusion: forcing metal through a die orifice in the same direction as the applied force (forward extrusion) or in the opposite direction (backward extrusion). The process is used on hollow slugs to reduce wall thickness, and to manufacture cans with either cylindrical cavities or cavities with varying cross sections. |
